Are there any Internet browser requirements?

The UC Davis Bookstore is best viewed using a newer Internet browser such as Netscape 7+, Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox 1+, Safari 1+, etc. If you are using an older Internet browser we highly recommend that you upgrade to a newer Internet browser.

There are several reasons to upgrade including:

  1. Increased security and privacy to protect against viruses, spyware and online scams
  2. Increased performance and usability
  3. Better Internet Standards compatibility for current and future Internet technology
  4. Enhanced user experience
  5. Finally upgrading is FREE

Here are just a few of the FREE Internet browsers:

  1. Mozilla Firefox
  2. Netscape Navigator
  3. Microsoft Internet Explorer
  4. Opera

Does Javascript have to be enabled?

No, we do not require that you have Javascript enabled, however if you have it disabled you will not be able to see all the features of our web site. For example, you may not be able to see item prices or totals until the last step of the checkout process. However you will still be able to purchase items and will still pay the same price as users who do choose to enhance their visit to our web site by enabling Javascript.

How do I enable JavaScript?

For Microsoft Internet Explorer:
  1. Go to the Tools menu
  2. Click Internet Options...
  3. Click the Security tab
  4. Click the Default Level button if it is not grayed
    (or "Enable" "Active Scripting" under the "Custom Level" button)
  5. Move the slider to Medium or lower
  6. Click OK

Do I have to accept Cookies?

No, you do not have to accept cookies, but we highly recommend that you do. If your Internet browser is set to block cookies you will not be able to use many areas of our web site. For example, you will not be able to place items in your shopping cart or place orders on our web site.

What are Cookies?

A cookie is a small piece of data stored on the user’s computer. There are two main kinds of cookies – session cookies and persistent cookies. Session cookies are stored in your internet browser’s memory and disappear when you close your browser – they can also timeout after prolonged user inactivity. Persistent cookies are written to a text file and are stored on the user’s hard drive for an extended period of time. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions.

What kind of cookies does the UC Davis Bookstore use?

The UC Davis Bookstore uses session cookies. We use session cookies to store information such as items in your shopping cart, whether or not you have logged in, etc. As these are all session cookies they terminate as soon as you close all open windows of your Internet browser.

How do I accept Cookies?

For Microsoft Internet Explorer:
  1. Go to the Tools menu
  2. Click Internet Options...
  3. Click the Privacy tab
  4. Move the slider to High, Medium High or lower
  5. Click OK
